Introduction to James and Joan Alty, MCC Southern Africa Area Directors
James and Joan Alty originate from a small acreage located in Howden, MB. just south of Winnipeg.   They were appointed MCC Representatives for SwaLeSA (Swaziland, Lesotho and South Africa) in August 2008.  They held that position until Dec. 2015 when they were appointed Area Directors for Southern Africa.  In their 10 years with MCC in southern Africa, the Altys have been able to travel extensively in the region and have observed a great deal of MCC’s programming.
Their areas of particular interest are conservation agriculture (James) and peace programming (Joan). They have also had significant involvement with MCC’s Global Serving & Learning (youth focused) programming. They will speak to MCC as an organization and its programming in the southern Africa area.
James and Joan have three grown children Nicole, Michael and Timothy. Their home church is Crossroads Mennonite Brethren Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba. James has a Masters of Agricultural Economics and Joan has an LLB from the University of Manitoba.
